A Passage to India: The Sequel
This work was created in the summer of 2001, following the Company’s own (4th) passage to India and premiered at Battery Park as part of the Company’s 20th Annual Downtown Dance Festival. A Passage to India: The Sequel brings three stock characters to life: the hippie, the socialite, and the rock star, on a visit to a caricatured India. The vibrant and hip music of Indo-pop group Alms for Shanti sets a rich palette within which the dance unfolds in a series of solos and a trio.
A Daumier-sketch of a dance, barely 15 minutes, its loving humor and sense of fun brought a needed sense of lightness to the launch of Wall Street Rising on December 4, 2001, in downtown Manhattan.
