Classical dance in India is thousands of years old. Today’s performers are dedicated to preserving the tradition and making it relevant to this era. Durgesh Gangani, one of India’s rising stars, is the scion of an illustrious family of Kathak dancers. His grandfather was a legendary guru and his father has trained him since he was four in the intricate rhythmic and dramatic aspects of the art. PhD candidate and teacher, Gangani has performed at the most prestigious music and dance festivals and has received several honors. He recently became the youngest dancer to receive a Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, given to artists under 40. The performance will be accompanied by Rohan Mishra on Sarangi and Dibyanka Chatterjee on tablas. Presented by Battery Dance with sponsorship from The Consulate General of India.
