Battery Dance company members will be conducting a dance residency at the Earth School on the Lower East Side in Manhattan. The classes will be divided in 6-week modules of different dance styles including: Hip Hop, Salsa, and West African. Students from 3rd, 4th and 5th grades will be immersed in the experience during the whole school year and will demonstrate the dances they learned during an in-school performance for family and fellow students in February, 2020.
Over 156 students will be directly impacted through 145 classes taking place over the course of 10 months. In addition, students will travel to Battery Dance studios twice to see rehearsals of works in progress.
The dance residency at the Earth School is part of Dancing to Connect 360, a program supported by The Pierre & Tana Matisse Foundation, The New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, and The New York State Council For the Arts.
