College Partnership Program
After four decades of teaching in New York City public schools and 70 countries overseas, Battery Dance is a recognized leader in the field of arts education. The Company’s Dancing to Connect methodology, introduced in 2006, offers youth of all ability levels opportunities for creativity, self-expression, and healing that has been recognized by thought leaders worldwide.
During the 2022-2023 school year, Battery Dances embarks on a new initiative that will multiply the impact of its social impact work. The Battery Dance College Partnership Program completed its first program at Vassar College and Poughkeepsie High School, and will launch Fall 2023 sessions at Pace University and Queensborough Community College in Dancing to Connect, educating a new generation of dancer/mentors. Students at each institution will explore the ways in which dance can create social impact in communities at home and abroad, utilizing the pedagogical techniques of Battery Dance’s acclaimed “Dancing to Connect” methodology.
Working side by side in teams with Battery Dance’s professional teaching artists, they will lead workshops with local high school students, employing the stepping stones for creating trust and engendering self-esteem and teamwork skills. Equipped with these skills, college dance students will gain a marketable skill that can supplement their careers as performers and choreographers while empowering them to bring positive change to communities.
